August 2025 Social Security Payment Schedule: Dates, $5,108 Maximum Benefit, and What to Do If Yours Is Late

view original post

Social Security recipients will see their August 2025 payments on staggered dates depending on their birth date. The month also includes two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments due to the Labor Day holiday in September.

According to the Social Security Administration, the maximum monthly benefit in 2025 is $5,108, but only for retirees who meet strict eligibility requirements.

Payment Dates for August 2025

  • August 1 – SSI recipients.
  • August 13 – Retirement, survivor, and disability benefits for people with birthdays 1st–10th.
  • August 20 – Birthdays 11th–20th.
  • August 27 – Birthdays 21st–31st.
  • August 29 – Second SSI payment for September (moved up due to Labor Day on Sept. 1).

2025 Maximum Benefit

The highest possible monthly Social Security retirement benefit in 2025 is $5,108, up from $4,873 in 2024 after the 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). To receive the maximum, a retiree must:

  • Have at least 35 years of earnings at or near the taxable maximum.
  • Delay claiming benefits until age 70.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Late

The SSA advises waiting three business days after your scheduled payment date before taking action. If the payment still hasn’t arrived:

  1. Contact your bank to confirm there are no deposit issues.
  2. Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 or check your “my Social Security” account online.

Why Some Payments May Be Smaller

Payment amounts can vary if the SSA withholds benefits. One common reason is repayment of previous overpayments—the agency can withhold up to 50% of current benefits until the debt is cleared.

Long-Term Trust Fund Concerns

A recent update from the SSA indicates the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) trust fund could run out of money by late 2032—sooner than previous forecasts. Without congressional action, benefits could be reduced to match incoming revenue once reserves are depleted.
