National Bank of Belarus promises breakthrough in cryptocurrency implementation

MINSK. Aug 12 (Interfax) – The National Bank of Belarus has prepared a series of government decisions aimed at achieving a breakthrough in the Belarusian cryptocurrency market, Roman Golovchenko said after reporting to President Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday.

“We have specific proposals on how to achieve breakthrough results in terms of incorporating cryptocurrencies and digital financial assets into our financial policy,” Golovchenko was quoted as saying by the state agency BelTA.

“These approaches were reported to Alexander Lukashenko and generally supported by the president. Details will evidently be discussed soon at a special meeting. The National Bank has prepared specific draft regulatory acts on this matter,” Golovchenko said.

Lukashenko received Golovchenko’s report on the banking system’s performance on Tuesday and raised the question of further actions regarding cryptocurrencies and the crypto market, BelTA said.

“The crypto market, cryptocurrency. How do we use it, especially now, to facilitate payments? There’s much talk about this, but our cryptocurrency market in Belarus remains underdeveloped. How will we proceed further?” Lukashenko asked Golovchenko.
