Each month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) distributes benefits to retirees, survivors, and recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Typically, beneficiaries receive one payment per month. However, in certain months, some recipients get two payments because the following month’s check is sent early. That’s the case this month—an early payment will be issued on Friday, August 29.
Who will receive the early Social Security payment?
The SSA will send an early payment to SSI recipients, making it their second check for the month. This happens because, according to the SSA’s official payment schedule, SSI benefits are usually paid on the first day of each month. If that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment is sent on the previous business day.
Since Monday, September 1 is Labor Day, a federal holiday, September’s SSI payment will be sent early—on Friday, August 29. As a result, the next SSI payment won’t be issued until October 1.
How much will SSI recipients receive?
In 2025, the maximum SSI benefit is:
- $967 for an eligible individual
- $1,450 for an eligible couple
- $484 for an essential person.
However, actual payment amounts vary by recipient, as Social Security benefits are calculated individually based on several factors.
Payments are typically sent via direct deposit for those who’ve provided bank account details, or by mail for those receiving paper checks, which may take longer to arrive.
